Erling Haaland is ready to make his Manchester City debut after sitting out their pre-season friendly against Club America, Pep Guardiola has confirmed.
The Manchester City’s star signing missed out on a chance to make his debut as the Premier League champions started their North American tour with victory over Club America in Houston.
But he is expected to play his first minutes under Pep Guardiola during the high-profile clash with Bayern Munich on Saturday.
The clash will be the first major football match at the historic Lambeau Field – home of 13-time NFL champions Green Bay Packers – in Wisconsin. The match starts 3am overnight UAE time.
Speaking ahead of the Bayern fixture, Guardiola confirmed how City planned to use Haaland in their second and final pre-season game before the Community Shield next week vs Liverpool.
Guardiola said: “If this afternoon [Friday] there is nothing wrong in the training session, or tonight he [doesn’t] feel bad and falls out of bed and breaks his ankle, then he will play.”
Pep Guardiola went ahead to insist the blockbuster signing will complement the existing dressing room harmony.
‘One of the things I am trying to discover is if he is a nice guy. I don’t like to work much with guys who are not nice.
‘When you have a locker room and the chemistry is good, that is worth more than hours of tactics. This summer we have bought some exceptional people. And the rest we know each other.
‘And we are sad because Raheem, Gabriel and Oleks were incredibly beloved. Since I arrived in Manchester, the chemistry has been incredible. It makes things good for me.’
Fellow new signing Julian Alvarez impressed on his first outing and City have added more attacking threat to a team that regular reaches nearly 100 Premier League goals in a season.
‘Erling and Julian are here and will have a positive effect on our game,’ Guardiola added. ‘We scored a lot of goals last season; we won the Premier League and got the semi-finals of the Champions League.
‘We were one of the most top scorers in Europe. They have the quality to score goals and that for us is most important.’
