Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Riyad Mahrez is ready to sign a new long-term deal.
The 31-year-old has been one of the most enigmatic attackers in the Premier League over the past half a dozen years. He has been in ‘sparkling’ form this season and was Man City’s leading goalscorer with 23 goals and nine assists in 43 matches in all competitions.
However, with less than 18 months left on the Algerian’s existing deal, reports have claimed that a number of elite European clubs are monitoring Mahrez’s contract situation.
According to The Sun, Riyad Mahrez is ready to sign a new long-term deal at Man City, with plans to open talks about an extension over the next month.
The report claims that Mahrez’s priority is landing a three-year deal with an option for one more, while Man City are confident terms will be agreed.
Many fans are happy to hear Mahrez will be staying beyond this summer as it’s clear he still has plenty to offer to Pep Guardiola’s team, especially if one or both of Jesus and Sterling leave the club.
Here’s what some City fans had to say on Twitter:
