‘This is a big mistake!’, ‘we shouldn’t sell him at all’ – Many fans react as Man City name asking price for defender amid Premier League interest

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Newcastle United will have to pay £50million to sign Nathan Ake this summer.

The 27-year-old Chelsea academy graduate joined Pep Guardiola’s side from Bournemouth for more than £40 million in 2020, but has struggled to maintain a regular starting spot.

He managed only ten starts this past season while making 14 appearances in the league overall. In all competitions, Ake featured in a total of 27 games, scoring thrice.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe, who worked with the Dutch defender during their time at Bournemouth, hold an interest in signing the Netherlands international this summer and have been told by the Premier League champions that he will cost a significant fee.

According to the Sun, Newcastle, who were linked with a swoop for Ake in January, have been informed they will have to offer £50 million for Nathan Ake if they are to sanction a sale for the Dutchman this summer.

It has been added that whilst Manchester City and Pep Guardiola do not desire losing Ake two years on from his arrival, the club will not stand in his way should he look for a move away for improved game time, with three years left on his current deal at the Etihad Stadium.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“He’s way too good to not get consistent first team football which we can’t offer. With his best interests in mind if we can get at least 50 mil for him the right thing would be to let him go but I’d love him to stay. Been sublime for us lately.”

“50m? Is that a joke? When has he ever played sh*t?! With consistent games he could easily be one of the best defenders, he should be sold for 70-80 with alot of begging from the buyers.”

“We’re just not standing on his way, if he wants to leave to be a starter we shouldn’t get on his way we’re just putting a reasonable price if he decides he wants to go”

“They should be paying £60M. we want to keep him so if they want him they should have to pay more.”
