Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Sterling has confirmed his desire to leave the club this summer as Chelsea make official contact.
Sterling, who joined from Liverpool in a £49m deal in 2015 and has scored 131 goals in 339 games, is a major transfer target for new Blues owner Todd Boehly.
It is understood Chelsea are yet to lodge a formal bid for the 27-year-old, but one is expected shortly. Sterling has a year left on his contract and is understood to be reviewing his options.
According to Jack Gaughan and Adrian Kajumba of The Daily Mail, Chelsea have made formal contact with the Premier League champions to complete the signing of Raheem Sterling in the coming week.
It has been revealed Sterling indicated his desire to leave City in talks with the club’s hierarchy earlier this month, with Pep Guardiola’s side affording the former Liverpool man time to assess his options.
Chelsea owner Todd Boehly, who will have to pay £55 million for Sterling, is keen on making a statement signing following his takeover of the west London club.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“If we’ve known about this, why we not working on a replacement…Mahrez 31 and doesnt offer long term answer and Palmer unproven and Pep takes his time with the young guys…We have a big hole in squad if Sterling leaves as well….”

“If the man already wishes it, then fans of City will support him wholeheartedly. It will be weird to see Sterling in another club shirt, but no matter how I see it, Raheem Sterling will always be a Manchester City player.
Once a blue will always be a blue 💙.”

“It’s been evident for years he’s wanted to leave, pretty sure he’s refused to renew for about 2 years now, always seen this happening, just thought it’d be to Spain though.”

“If he leaves we defo need to sign a winger. Hope he stays though, can’t let 2 forwards leave.”

“Rather he stayed as I’m sure he’ll regain his top form with Haaland around him but if he wants to go that’s fine as long as we get minimum of £50m-£60m.”
