Manchester City fans have been hailing John Stones following his performance against Atletico Madrid, helping Pep Guardiola’s side to book their place in the Champions League semi-finals.
City led 1-0 from the first leg and faced a barrage of Atletico Madrid pressure in the second half before Diego Simeone’s side lost the plot and multiple scuffles ensued.
The English side deserve the plaudits for keeping the crucial clean sheet when it mattered, but John Stones deserves a lot of credit with coming through the tough test in Spain.
Stone was absolutely magnificent, calm when needed, aggressive, and his timing had to be spot on. Might have scored as well.
Joao Felix, for all his energetic running, didn’t actually get much change out of Stones. A great late block from John was arguably one of the highlights of the match.
