‘He’s good’, ‘Unfortunately for him’, ‘Not happening for obvious reasons’ – Many fans react as £36m striker put Man City transfer ‘top of his preferences’

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Pep Guardiola’s side are at the top of Darwin Nunez‘s preferred options this summer.

Nunez has been the star of the show for the Portuguese side this season, scoring 33 goals in 38 games in all competitions, including six goals in ten games in the Champions League.

The 22-year-old Benfica stars has been linked with a move away from the Primeira Liga outfit in recent months, with Manchester City linked to the player for a long time.

According to Record as relayed by Sport Witness, Darwin Nunez has put Manchester City alongside Atlético Madrid at the top of his wishlist this summer and is hopeful agent Jorge Mendes can seal it for him.

They explain that the Atletico Madrid are currently the club who are ‘best positioned’ to secure his signing, having been following the £36m striker for a long time as they eye up a replacement for Luis Suarez, whose contract is coming to an end.

However, this comes at a time when Erling Haaland, the club’s priority striker, is edging closer to an Etihad Stadium move as a plethora of reliable reports back that City are the overwhelming favourites.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“If Haaland wants more than £350k a week then let’s just go for Nunez imo. Cheaper, better agent, less wages, better injury history.”

“I like Darwin Nuñez but if we get Haaland and Alvarez, it’s kind of pointless….”

“I’ve become a big fan of this guy as of late, but surely won’t happen if Haaland signs. But IMAGINE the front options with Foden/Grealish/Sterling – Haaland/Nunez – Mahrez/Palmer/Alvarez. In-cre-di-ble!.”

“Not happening for obvious reasons but would be mad depth.”

“Bring back the prime Mancini and Pellegrini quadruple striker days of Aguero-Dzeko-Tevez-Balotelli with Haaland, Alvarez, Nunez and Jesus.”

“Had we not got Alvarez, Nunez could have been a possibility but with Alvarez in, he got no chance more or less unless we bottle the Haaland transfer as I believe he would be our 2nd choice/alternative to Haaland.”

“Why is it that everyone wants to join Manchester City? First Haaland, then Lautaro Martinez, Paul Pogba, now Darwin Nunez…….”

“Nunez will be a back up option in case Haaland deal didn’t go through.”
