‘He is coming back home’ – Athletico Paranaense fans react as Fernandinho in talks over return to Brazilian side

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Fernandinho is in talks about a return to Brazil with his first club Athletico Paranaense at the end of the season.

The defensive midfielder has been at the Etihad since 2013. He has made 375 appearances for the club so far and helped them to win a host of trophies. His honours include four Premier League titles, one FA Cup and six EFL Cups.

Fernandinho fell down Pep Guardiola’s pecking order after the arrival of Rodri in 2019. He has still played 25 games for Manchester City this season, although he rarely gets the chance to start in the bigger matches.

The 53-cap Brazil international made headlines last week by revealing his desire to secure a summer transfer.

Asked at a press conference if he would like to stay at City, he said: “I don’t think so. I want to play regularly. I will go back to Brazil. I decided with my family, which is the most important for me.”

While several additional updates are expected around Fernandinho’s future in the coming months, it has been reported that several Brazilian clubs are ‘quite excited’ about the possibility of signing him for free next season.

According to Daily Mail, Fernandinho is in talks over an exit from the Etihad after nine seasons at the club with former side Athletico Paranaense hoping to bring him back to Brazil in the summer.

Last year, before signing a one-year contract extension at Manchester City, Fernandinho had already opened talks with Athletico for a return, before deciding it would be best to stay in England.

With the Brazilian yet to win a European trophy with City, Fernandinho will be desperate to finish off this job this year after coming so close to Champions League glory last year against Chelsea.

After disappointing one club legend in Sergio Aguero last season in his final game for the club in the Champions League final, the Cityzens can’t do the same again this season with Fernandinho.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
