Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club will sign at least one midfielder this summer, dependant on outgoings.
Club captain Fernandinho revealed earlier this month that he will likely be leaving the club at the end of the season, which will leave Rodri as the only defensive midfielder.
As a result, City are scouring the market for potential replacements. The club have been linked to a variety of top midfield prospects around the world in recent months.
According to Italian transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City will sign at least one midfielder this summer, dependant on outgoings after securing a possible deal for Erling Haaland.
He claims one name Man City are monitoring in midfield is Sporting’s Matheus Nunes, with club scouts having been sent to watch the player on more than four/five occasions.
The 23-year-old midfield maestro, who has starred for Sporting in the Portuguese top flight this season, has also attracted Premier League attention for his performances.
The Sporting no. 8 has made 28 starts and two substitute appearances in the Portuguese league so far this season, scoring two goals and given two assists in those games. He also has two assists in six Champions League games this campaign.
He became a hot topic of conversation amongst football fans across the globe in recent weeks, after Pep Guardiola described the midfielder as ‘one of the best players in the world’ when speaking after the Champions League round of 16 first-leg in Portugal in February.
The youngster is a very dynamic central midfielder who can impose himself in the middle of the park and can also push the team forward.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from Man City supporters.
