Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report of the club’s interest in River Plate midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
Fernandez has enjoyed a bright start to the current season, following up on his performances from the last term. Those displays have attracted attention from some of the major clubs in Europe.
The 21-year-old midfielder has been linked with Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and West Ham United after breaking into the River first team last year.
According to the Citizens Brasil, City intends to ‘reformulate’ their midfield this summer, looking to sign two players in the position, with River Plate’s Enzo Fernández on the list.
The report claims City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain has already contacted the representatives of the Argentine midfielder.
It further claimed that River Plate want New York City forward, Valentín Castellanos – owned by the City Football Group – plus cash in exchange for Enzo Fernández.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“No idea if this is reliable or not but it’s 100% what we need and should be doing. A backup DM (not squad filler) who could also deputise in another position, and a CM (could be squad filler) are necessary.”

“Very much needed. Stick Fernandinho in the back room staff and get a dm + 8 in.”

Who is Enzo Fernandez?
Primarily a central midfielder, the Argentine is also versatile enough to play in the defensive midfield when the situation asks for it. He has had a strong start to the current campaign, having made two assists already from four appearances in the Copa de la Liga.
The River youngster has quickly become a regular for his side at such a young age in his career, having risen through the ranks in the club’s academy previously. He has showcased his technical qualities for the South American side, earning a name for himself in the process.
