Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has given a firm indication that he will like to take charge of a national team after he leaves Etihad, even though he’s not ready for it yet.
The Spaniard is contracted at the Etihad Stadium until 2023 and could extend that, but expects to work elsewhere at some point in the future.
Since his appointment in 2016, Guardiola has extended his stay with the reigning Premier League Champions on two occasions, firstly in 2018 and again in 2020.
He has repeatedly expressed his happiness with life at City, but has always been cautious about discussing the length of his stay. .
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss was interviewed on Monday by Argentine outlet Telemundo, and was asked if he’s take charge of a national team after he leaves Manchester City.
“One day yes. I thought, when I leave Manchester City to lead a national team, but I would not like to choose it immediately,” said Guardiola (via Olé).
“I’ll need to stop, rest for a while. Play a World Cup. A Euro, a Copa America, although it will not happen. It’s an event with the capacity to train a team in a short time to the capacity that there are a thousand things to do in just two sessions. I would like to live the experience of the World Cup”.
These Guardiola’s comments on his future were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
