Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club’s officials are preparing a new contract for defensive midfielder Rodri.
Rodri, who is currently in his third season as a Man City player, has asserted himself as one of the first names on Pep Guardiola’s team sheet with his consistent performances this season.
The Spaniard is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2024. His performances have warranted improved terms and an extension to his current expected stay with the reigning Premier League champions.
After months of improved contracts for the likes of Ederson, John Stones, Ruben Dias and Joao Cancelo, the latest reports indicate that Rodri could be the next in line for re-negotiated terms.
According to the information of Mike McGrath at the Telegraph, Rodri is in line for a contract extension at Manchester City, with the Spanish international seen as an important part of the future of the club.
At the age of 25, City see him as a crucial part of their future and would not want to risk losing a player who has been a pivotal part of their recent success.
However, of Mike McGrath hint that stronger competition could be coming for his place. Fellow holding player Fernandinho is out of contract at the end of the season. With that in mind, City are scouring the market for potential replacements.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters – here are some of the best responses.

“Great news! Really need some legs added to midfield to play the games where they counter attack with pace. Rodri is perfect for most games, but there are some that would favour a more athletic DM.”

“isn’t Rodri supposed to be Fernandinho’s replacement?”

“Long term Dinho replacement then what is Rodri?”

“They’re not blind. He’s not the answer for that midfield spot. Good spell before Xmas now back to being bang average. Not athletic enough and passing too safe.”
