Plenty of Sky Blues weren’t impressed with the performance of Raheem Sterling in the goalless draw on Wednesday night against Sporting Lisbon at the Etihad.
Manchester City came into the game on the back of their 4-1 thrashing of Manchester United on Sunday. Surprisingly, Pep Guardiola decided to use almost all of his regular starters despite being 5-0 ahead on aggregate.
City took control of the possession early on but failed to convert their half-chances in the first period. However, after the interval, Pep Guardiola’s side showed more enthusiasm to break the deadlock at the Etihad Stadium.
They did that with little alarm as they played out a routine goalless draw without truly exerting themselves against a side already resigned to elimination.
Raheem Sterling blew City’s best chance and just seemed unable to raise himself for a game where he had something to prove. His creative skills were top-notch, but was wasteful with his own chances.
Caught offside and lacked a killer touch when called upon, namely in the 38th minute with a squandered one-on-one chance. He disappeared in the second half until missing from close range in the last minute, spurning a great chance.
In reaction to Sterling’s display, plenty of Sky Blues took to twitter to express their disappointment.
