Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on new Manchester City recruit Julian Alvarez, comparing him to Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy.

The 22-year-old forward moved to Manchester City for a fee worth around £14.2m plus add-ons but will remain on loan with River Plate until July at the earliest.

Guardiola is satisfied with the transfer dealings and hailed the Alvarez deal as an excellent piece of business.

“Julian scored three goals in the last game for River Plate and Man City made an incredible deal,” the Manchester City boss said.

Guardiola has gone as far as to compare Alvarez to Leicester City star Jamie Vardy

‘He is a player who moves really well, the goals he scores are like Jamie Vardy’s. I think next pre-season he will be at Man City with us and we will see what happens in the future..”

The former England striker is amongst the best strikers in the Premier League when fit, and if Alvarez does follow in his footsteps, the reigning champions will have a real player on their hands.
