A number of Manchester City fans have taken to Twitter to comment on an eye-opening statistic about Jack Grealish which highlights his quality.
Grealish has had a slow start to life at Manchester City, but the £100m signing has been far from a flop since joining from Aston Villa.
After guiding his beloved hometown side back into the top-flight, Grealish netted 14 goals and provided 18 assists over two years and 62 appearances in the Premier League for Villa.
However, Since his British record arrival in August, Jack Grealish’s Manchester City performances have been under a harsh microscope.
The former Aston Villa man still appears to be waiting for the performance that will kickstart his career at the Etihad, with just three goals and three assists from 23 appearances in all competitions so far.
It hasn’t even been a full season but Grealish is dividing opinion like no others in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Several members of the current squad only truly hit their stride after a year or more at the club. The likes of Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Joao Cancelo and Rodri are all examples of this.
Pep Guardiola has reiterated the point several times about the long-term thinking behind Grealish’s signing, and appeared to suggest he had not given him as much protection as other big signings by playing him so much from the off.
Pep Guardiola clearly saw something in Grealish and, whatever your stance on his impact thus far, three goals and the same number of assists from 23 games in all competitions is not enough.
But those simple goal and assist statistics may be a little misleading, however, as a new stat shows Grealish remains one of the most creative players in the Premier League.
According to whoscored, Jack Grealish averages the second-most key passes from open play per game [2.1] in the Premier League this season. Only Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes (2.3) averages more the the England international.
Of course, that raises a question of why Grealish only has two league assists given he’s making so many key passes, but a counterargument would be that City encourage runners from midfield and often the ball to find that runner is more difficult than the straightforward assist.
Here is how some of the club’s faithful reacted to this Jack Grealish’s stats.
Not a great look for the Grealish haters… https://t.co/TxF58KjGcA

The hatred he gets, especially from City fans, is so forced and embarrassing

Unbelievably over hated

He’s more than just goals and assists. Modern football has people wanting Salah numbers for him straight away

Improving match by match 💙

Doesn’t change the fact that he can’t finish, he’s wasteful and we play worse with him on the pitch. But all is fine he makes key passes…

He’d be so much better if he would just start taking on more shots and taking on defenders more, instead of passing back every time

He hasn’t been the player we signed from Villa, but he’s ridiculously over-hated. His time will come https://t.co/CBS3WJvPxH
