Manchester City are reportedly considering a swoop for Real Madrid veteran Luka Modric.
The 36 year-old Croatian international has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Bernabeu and is considering his options in the latter stages of his career.
According to El Nacional, Man City are keeping a close eye on Modric’s situation, with the Croatia international now ‘running out of patience’ over contract talks.
Modric isn’t happy with new terms offered by Florentino Perez and feels ‘undervalued’ by the ‘Los Blancos’ hierarchy believing he deserves a two-year extension for his years of service.
The report adds that the midfielder’s priority is to retire at the Bernabeu and is waiting for Perez to come up with another offer. Should he fail to do so, City and Pep Guardiola will be ‘waiting with open arms’.
The former Tottenham Hotspur man has five assists from 20 appearances in all competitions this season and has won four Champions Leagues and two La Liga titles at the Bernabeu.
City already have a plethora of midfield options at their disposal, though Guardiola may consider the signing of Modric next summer as a potential replacement for Fernandinho, who will see his contract expire in the summer of 2022.
Modric, who Pep Guardiola is a big admirer, is a fantastic midfielder and is still playing regularly for Real, but it won’t be easy luring him away from the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Croatia international’s reliance on passing and creation has seen him earn comparisons with the likes of Andrea Pirlo and Andres Iniesta, thus would be an absolute steal if Man City can get him for free.
