Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report of another update on the club’s pursuit of River Plate striker Julian Alvarez.
Alvarez has been heavily linked with a potential switch to Manchester City across the past few days, with negotiations between all relevant parties seemingly accelerating in a matter of hours on Saturday.
It is believed that the Citizens are prepared to activate the 21-year-old’s release clause, worth in the region of £17m, in a bid to fend off interest from the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
90min Football reported earlier today that City are set to confirm the signing of Argentine starlet, and a fee of around £20m has been agreed, with local taxes and fees now needed to be paid by River.
Though a deal looks to be close, 90min report that the transfer will see the forward remain with his current club until the summer at the earliest.
According to latest reports from ESPN, Man City remain open to the idea that Julian Alvarez could be part of Pep Guardiola’s senior squad next season, but his arrival would not change their plans to sign an established striker in the summer.
The report states that it is likely that Alvarez will not move to the Etihad Stadium until next summer at the earliest, but he will be considered as a Man City first-team signing.
As per the report, until he is ready to move to England, City will consider loaning him back to River Plate or arranging another loan elsewhere.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Xtra, Man City Fans as usual have expressed their thoughts and opinions.

What are we just meant to watch him play for another club whilst we literally don’t have a striker

They should sign him and then forget about other striker. So Julian Alvarez and Liam Delap can link up together 🙏

For those of you confused: The plan is to sign Alvarez now so we’re guaranteed a striker next season, but still try signing a high profile striker over the Summer. If we fail at signing a high profile striker, we have Alvarez https://t.co/JXdiZJzSV6
