Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays a reports that claims the club will open contract talks with Joao Cancelo in the coming months.
The 27-year-old Portugal International arrived at City from Juventus in 2019 and after a slow start to life in England, he’s become one of the world’s best defenders.
Cancelo has been in incredible form of late and despite the fact his current contract runs until June 2025, City look keen to reward him for his fine form and seek a further commitment from him.
As per respected transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano:
“Man City board considers João Cancelo as ‘key player’ for present and future. The plan is to open talks and offer him new contract in the next months, looking for discussion to progress in 2022.”
With Cancelo still just 27 and arguably the best full-back in world football right now, he could be in line for a hefty pay increase, in the hope that he continues to excel in sky blue.
So far during the 2021/22 season, Cancelo is rivalling Manchester City’s attacking talents for the most goal contributions across all competitions. He has scored six times for City, assisting 12 in total.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Xtra, many Man City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions.
