‘Tremendous’ – Former Liverpool star suggests ‘exceptional’ player was even better than Salah at Anfield yesterday

Former Liverpool striker, Michael Owen was full of praise for Manchester City star Foden, praising him for shining at Anfield on Sunday afternoon and even believes he was just as good – if not better – than Salah during the game.

Foden ’s display against Liverpool, in a pulsating 2-2 draw at Anfield on Sunday, was a testament to how the 21-year-old time after time has delivered on the biggest stage.

Scoring against Liverpool has become something of a habit for Foden, who now has now struck three times in as many Premier League appearances against Jurgen Klopp’s men – his most versus a single opponent in his career.

The England international started the game brightly, creating a host of opportunities and chances for the side. His build-up play with Kevin De Bruyne and Jack Grealish was wonderful to watch.

He frequently tormented James Milner down the left flank, who struggled to keep up with his pace and movement. Then, after Sadio Mane edged Liverpool in front, Foden bagged his first goal of the season after coming back from a foot injury.

The opener came slightly against the run of play, with City probably the better side. England international Foden equalised with a lovely finish.

Liverpool went 2-1 ahead with a wonderful solo goal from Mohamed Salah, only for Kevin De Bruyne to make it 2-2 inside the last 10 minutes at Anfield.

A lot of the talk afterwards was about Salah and that goal he scored. But former Liverpool striker, Michael Owen, believes that Foden was just as good – if not better – than Salah during the game.

“I know Mo Salah scored one of the goals of the season so far. But I thought Phil Foden was tremendous. Right from minute one until the end,” Owen told Premier League productions.

“Scored a goal as well. Created chances as well. Gave Liverpool problems down that left hand side. I thought he was exceptional.”
