Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers will resist interest from Newcastle as he is in the frame to replace Pep Guardiola at in 2023.
Rodgers had reportedly emerged as Newcastle’s primary target with the new mega-rich owners ready to part company with current manager Steve Bruce, after the club was taken over last Thursday.
Newcastle became the richest club in the world, and the new owners are expected to look for a different manager to match the high ambitions that they share and oversee the rebuild.
However, Rodgers may not be their man as City look to get one over their new wealthy rivals.
According to the Daily Mail, Rodgers will knock back any approach from Newcastle as he is reportedly being lined up to replace Guardiola as City manager in 18 months time, as the Spaniard’s contract expires in the summer of 2023.
It is believed that Guardiola will indeed leave the Etihad when his contract expires in the summer of 2023, meaning that the club will already be hunting down the perfect replacement for City’s most successful ever manager.
