Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Pep Guardiola’s ‘primary striker target’ is Erling Haaland after missing out on Harry Kane last summer.
City did all they could to land Kane but Tottenham refused to negotiate, and with no suitable alternative they decided to go into the season with Jack Grealish as their only senior addition.
Guardiola’s side were also linked with a swoop for Erling Haaland last summer, but were put off by Dortmund’s £150m price tag as the Bundesliga side wanted to hold onto their prized asset.
The attacker is arguably the hottest property in world football, with the 21-year-old attacker already one of the best finishers in Europe.
Having joined Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg during the winter of 2020, the Norweigan has already raced to a remarkable 68 goals, in 67 matches, in all competitions.
The Times reported on Tuesday that City are planning to open talks with Haaland’s entourage as early as January with the hope of discussing a potential summer move.
According to Ekrem Konur, the Borussia Dortmund’s striker is Pep Guardiola’s ‘primary striker target’ as he looks for a new No 9 after the departure of Sergio Aguero last summer.
Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid are just some of the other clubs who have been heavily linked with making a summer move, too.
For now, it appears City are frontrunner to land one of the most coveted signatures in the game and they will be helped in no small part by the fact Haaland’s father, Alfe-Inge, used to play for City himself.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Chief and City Xtra, many Man City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions, with many absolutely thrilled that the club’s focus has finally turned to the hot shot 21-year-old.
