A Manchester City supporter is fighting for his life in hospital after a ‘cowardly’ attack by Club Brugge fans following Tuesday night’s Champions League encounter.
The 63-year-old Belgian-based supporter, who is part of City supporters’ group called Blue Moon Belgium, was “left for dead” after he tried to retrieve his scarf from a Club Brugge fan at a service station in Drongen.
The incident took place following Man City’s 5-1 victory over Club Brugge in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Man City fan from Belgium, who has been named by HLN as Guido, was making his way home when he stopped at the service station.
He was approached by a rival supporter and had his scarf pulled from his neck.
When he attempted to retrieve it he received a “heavy blow to the head”, according to his son, and was “left for dead”.
‘Blue Moon Belgium was the victim of senseless (supporters) violence last night,’ the Belgian fan group wrote on their Facebook page.
‘My father was cowardly attacked because of his City scarf during a stopover in Drongen. We hope that the perpetrators are found and punished.
‘We were all over England and the rest of Europe, never aggression. We come to Belgium once and you are left for dead.
‘Keep on fighting daddy. City love, Jurgen.’
