Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Barcelona tried to sign Ferran Torres in the summer, but never came close.

It has been less than a year since Ferran Torres joined Manchester City from Valencia for £20.8m plus bonuses.

The 21-year-old winger enjoyed a successful debut season, scoring 13 goals in 36 appearances, as Pep Guardiola’s side won the Premier League and Carabao Cup.

He has had a great start of this season adapting to a new role as a central striker, scoring two goals and provided one assist in four league appearances this term.

Barcelona and City were the subject of repeated transfer stories during the summer window involving Aymeric Laporte, Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling, with it thought, and likely hoped by the Catalan media, that deals could be found which would be beneficial to both clubs.

According to Sport as relayed by Sport Witness, Barcelona also made an attempt to sign Ferran Torres from Manchester City.

The report adds that Barca ‘studied formulas to defer payments’ due to economic problems. In addition to financial problems, they were met with a ‘resounding no’ from Pep Guardiola.

In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Xtra, many Man City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions.
