Raheem Sterling has left many Manchester City fans guessing, after one particular comment made during a post-match interview while away at the European Championships on Sunday.
The England forward was the difference after his second-half goal gave his side all three points against Croatia at Euro 2020 on Sunday afternoon.
The City forward broke through the middle of the Croatian defence and ran onto the end of a pass from Kalvin Phillips to fire home his 57th minute marker and get England off to a winning start in Group D.
Sterling did not come into Euro 2020 in great form but showed against Croatia why his Manchester City and England managers pick him so often
He has often been a prolific scorer for City, but he’s sometimes received criticism for not quite doing it as consistently for his country.
When asked about his goal, and the comparison to his lack of goals under Pep Guardiola last season, Raheem Sterling beamed with confidence and referenced one factor or in his words, “a lot” of factors.
Sterling said, “Honestly, there’s a lot of different reasons why I haven’t scored for my club [Manchester City], but that’s totally irrelevant now. I’m here with England, I’m enjoying my football, and that’s the most important thing – I’m just happy to score!”
These Sterling’s comment has prompt plenty of Sky Blues to react on social media.
Very interesting comment

That was a dig at the club

Maybe it could just be the false 9 system but it is a weird comment to make

He hasn’t scored because he’s been absolutely shit nearly everytime he put on a City shit bar a few times

He’s probably mad he got benched by a 20 year old

Massive dig at City that don’t like to see it, he hasn’t been great for City this season but to be fair took his goal today well

He shouldn’t blame anyone. Pep gave him many chances including a start in the UCL final despite playing average. I don’t think it’s Pep

Probably because Sterling hasn’t played with a striker with City, he’s so much better when there is a clear nr 9 in the box.
