Sergio Aguero wants an existing Manchester City player to take his number 10 squad number, rather than it go to a new signing – which have got some of the club’s fans talking.
The City’s record goalscorer Aguero is leaving at the expiration of his contract at next month and looks set to return to La Liga with Barcelona after seven wonderful, trophy-laden seasons in English football.
With Aguero leaving after the Champions League final, City are in the market for a new striker. Harry Kane, Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland have all been linked, with all befitting of a high profile squad number like the soon-to-be-vacant no.10.
As for his No 10 shirt, Aguero believes that should go to 20-year-old, Foden,
“I think the No 10 shirt should be given to Phil Foden,” Aguero said on his Twitch stream.
“Some say Kevin [De Bruyne]. The thing is, I believe Kevin used his number [No 17] at other clubs, so I don’t think he would change it. That’s why I think Phil Foden.”
Here’s what some Man City City fans had to say on Twitter about Foden wearing no. 10 next season….

Love this. Definitely Foden or KDB

This is a no brainer. Phil Foden deserves the no 10 shirt.

Phil should make 47 iconic imo🤷♂️

Fair enough but whether Phil would want to switch or not is up to him. If not just give it to the striker we sign imo

I hope Phil Foden would keep wearing 47, make that number iconic.

People saying:
Kane should take it
Halaand should take itFoden or Kdb thats it!!
You don’t understand loyalty, tradition or locker room if you want a new player to take the number of the 🐐
I would even suggest a ‘3-5 year window’ no one touches it for that timeframe

I think Foden can fit in the boots of Aguero the Goat but he would still prefer his 47 cos it means a lot to him, Ferran is filling the boots of D.Silva so I think they shd retire the 10 for a few years. It’s disrespect to give to any new player tho regardless until proven

birthday of his grandfather? 10th. can’t see any reason why he would turn it down if offered. plus the fact that aguero wants to give it to him surely is gonna weigh even more
