Manchester City fans have been hailing Kevin De Bruyne following his performance against Borussia Dortmund, branding him ‘best football player in the world right now’.
Goals from De Bruyne and Phil Foden secured for Manchester City a 2-1 win over the German club in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday.
While the likes of Erling Haaland or Phil Foden may have stole the limelight in the lead up to this game, Tuesday’s clash was yet another example of why De Bruyne is Man City’s most important player.
The Manchester City captain was at the heart of everything good that City did.
Over the course of the game hte Belgium international dominated the match with his trademark gallops up and down the pitch and remarkable array of passes. However it was his interception, dribble, through ball and then goal in the first half which ultimately proved to be his most clinical contribution on the night.
As if that wasn’t enough, the midfielder then responded to a late Dortmund equaliser by picking out Ilkay Gundogan in the dying moments of the game with a tremendous long ball, which allowed the German to set Foden up with a late winner.
Against a plucky Dortmund side, it was De Bruyne that kept the visitors pinned back and his own side concentrated on winning the match.
City fans, then, were all over Twitter praising KDB for his display. Here’s what some of them had to say on Twitter…

If watching Kevin De Bruyne play football doesn’t bring you joy then football isn’t for you.

Obviously someone didn’t watch the match. Of course, Kevin De Bruyne was MOTM. No one came even close to him!

Kevin De Bruyne putting in man of the match performance week in week out every season in CL while Bruno Fernandes sent his team out of Champions League group stage and has never played in CL knock out stage. Levels.

Anyone who says we play better without Kevin De Bruyne just doesn’t know ball, he always steps up in the big games for us #MCIBVB

If Man City wins the CL or Belgium wins the euros, it’s ballon d’or to Kevin De Bruyne surely.
