Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano discussed the future of Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.

De Bruyne’s current contract with City currently runs until 2023, but the player has admitted that he is enjoying his stay at the Etihad. But that has not stopped the club from discussing fresh terms with a view to keep the player at the club for much longer.

Reports (as per The Athletic via The Sun) claimed that De Bruyne was annoyed at City’s latest contract offer which is lower than what he currently pockets due to the effect the coronavirus pandemic has had on football.

But Romano, speaking on a recent episode of the Here We Go podcast, discussed whether or not it looks as if the midfielder could be on his way out of Manchester this summer.

He said: “There is still great optimism around De Bruyne to extend his contract in the coming months. They are working on it. They are negotiating with Kevin so they are so positive, Manchester City.

“They told the player that they are not going to listen to any bids or any interest from other clubs next summer. They are 100% sure he will stay. He needs to stay and he wants to stay. So they are just planning for a new contract, but he’s not moving.”

The former Chelsea man joined City from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2015 and has been a huge success at the Etihad, winning two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and four EFL Cups, before adding the PFA honour at the end of last season.

The £108 million-rated 29-year-old has made 23 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and supplying 15 assists.
