Manchester City fans were impressed with Rodrigo Hernández’s performance in the 2-0 victory over resilient Aston Villa on Wednesday evening.
A goal from Bernardo Silva and a penalty from Ilkay Gundogan, both in the final 11 minutes of the match, got the job done for Pep Guardiola’s side.
With this result, Manchester City extended their winning run to six games in the league, and Rodrigo is one of the standout performer to have a played a great part in that success.
The Spain international is never easily caught out of position or in possession. He Keeps the team flowing and finds the spaces between the lines.
Against Aston Villa, an early header to put it on a plate for Bernardo set the tone for a useful performance where he looked to get the team playing quickly on the front foot as often as possible.
Rodri struggled to cope with Villa’s pace at times but delivered at a crucial moment. He regained possession in the Villans’ half and then set up Bernardo Silva for the opener.
Right at the heart of the controversy for the match-winning goal. Whether you think it should’ve counted or not, you have to applaud Rodri for being alert and available to win the ball back. Without his quick-thinking, we’d be two points worse off.
The Spain international, who is valued at £57.6 million by Transfermarkt has been criticised massively by fans at times this season, but that has not been the case recently.
Many City fans after the match took to Twitter to hail Rodri’s ‘monster’ performance against Villa.
Here’s how some of the Man City fans reacted to his performance:
Been getting unnecessary hate lately. What a player

Still think some of his passes were questionable. But a lot of upside today. Really high ceiling for improvement

Most underrated player. He always performs, on of the best in the CDM role for me

A monster performance. Has been superb for most of the season tbf. What a player and so young as well

Probably his best game of the season? A big fan of him but always had question marks against Rodri against teams with pace on the counter but he did really well tonight.

Will come good as Fernandinho, I’m fully support him atm.
Yes he’s nt as good as Ferna, but he still so young and need more time to be like Ferna who is 35yo and bags of experience along the way.— Akun Pemerintah (@lordsalty57_) January 20, 2021
