Daily Mail journalist Jack Gaughan, who is known to be reliable has shed light on Manchester City’s plans to spend big in the attacking department this summer.
Pep Guardiola’s side have surprisingly struggled to find their rhythm in the final third, with the usually free-scoring attack being a propblem.
The Citizens are a team which always want to dominate the game and attack, especially under the management of Pep Guardiola.
The Citizens hold the goal-scoring record for a Premier League season, also scoring 102 goals in the previous campaign. However, this season they have faced difficulties in finding the back of the net despite creating more goal scoring opportunities.
Their recent resurgence in form is largely down to the strength of their defence, keeping more clean sheets and conceding fewer goals than the rest of the teams in the league.
To ensure that chances are converted into goals next season, the Citizens are expected to be in the market for a new striker at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
According to Jack Gaughan relayed by Sport Illustrated, Man City know addressing their attack next summer is vital and there is a sense they have been saving up for a major splash.
The report claims that whether the club purchase Erling Haaland, Lionel Messi, both of them or neither — they will strengthen in the attacking department next summer.
In reaction to the report shared on twitter by Man City Xtra and City Chief, plenty of Sky Blues have been expressing their thoughts and opinions.

Let both happen, with our defence we’re winning everything

Wtf is the meaning of neither 😂. If we don’t get Halaand or Mbappe we’re finished 🤦🏽♂️

I’ve a feeling city will buy Messi rather than haaland. But I’ll prefer Haaland.

Haaland is endgame.

Priority 1 is getting Haaland and then giving a new contract to Foden. If Messi decides to come to City then maybe Mahrez’s days are numbered. If we manage to get a CDM like Zakaria/Bennacer then City might let Dinho leave. LB will be purchased only if one of Mendy/Zinch leave.

Would be a crime for City to let Haaland go to another club. Might be too late for Messi to come in, but two years with him could be the move. Haaland and Messi in, Mahrez out is the best possible scenario🤔
