Manchester City Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports of Pep Guardiola’s interest in Atletico Madrid defender Jose Maria Gimenez.
Despite the £41m capture of Ake from Bournemouth already, defender still remain the priority with Kalidou Koulibaly the main target.
José Giménez has been strongly linked with a move to the Etihad amongst the like of Upamecano, Milan Skriniar, Diego Carlos, Jules Koundé and Kalidou Koulibaly this summer, as Pep Guardiola looks to sign a new defender.
The Citizens have been trying to sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli for much of the transfer window. It’s been a hard fight, with the Serie A club’s president wanting a huge fee and being unrealistic regarding his prospects of getting it.
The Citizens have turn to Atletico Maldrid’s Jose Giménez as alternatives if Napoli are not prepared to lower their demands of of about €80m (£73.2m) for the center-back.
According to Jack Gaughan of Daily Mail Sport, Pep Guardiola admires Jose Gimenez but Atletico Maldrid insist he will only be sold for his buy out clause of £90m.

Pep doesn’t know about CBs . Don’t listen to him and buy a fast player like Kounde or Koulibally— Krishna Siddhardh (@KrishnaSiddhar4) September 18, 2020
City is now looking at different defenders after realizing that Koulibaly won’t be coming. Koykibaly is the only defender they were focusing on. Now we are told they admire these defenders. I’m afraid they will just sign average defender. And Gimenez is injury prone.— Fellah (@Momaverick83) September 18, 2020
Actually think he’s a more consistent player than Koulibaly, less physically impressive but very steady. Koulibaly can be a bit erratic. Injury record is obviously a big concern. It’s a gamble, but I wouldn’t consider it a bad move at all. Atleti value him which says a lot!— Jack Parkes (@jparkes1991) September 18, 2020
Kompany wasn’t by a mile the best CB we could dream off. His locker room traits came in handy. That’s what we need, a balance on & off the pitch.— ADDY KENNEDY EDEM (@kennymingle23) September 18, 2020
With that injury record…no thanks pic.twitter.com/sNZyd0Ivdr— Blue (@Calvinroche1) September 18, 2020
