Man City bottled chance to pay bargain £25M fee for £98.8M worthy heir to Sergio Aguero

Manchester City weren’t willing to shell out £25m to land Lautaro Martinez who is worth quadruple that figure in today’s market, claims Sam Lee in the Athletic.

The Blues have been linked with a number of strikers in recent months but one name which keeps cropping up, when City’s summer plans are mentioned, is Lautaro Martinez.

The Inter Milan striker made his name in the tough Argentine Premier Division by scoring 27 goals in 60 appearances for Racing Club.

According to a report by reliable Man City correspondent Sam Lee in the Athletic, director of football Txiki Begiristain and the club opted against paying a bargain £25 million fee to sign Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez back in 2018.

City boss Pep Guardiola sees Martinez who is currently value at around £98.8 million as the long-term replacement for Sergio Aguero.

According to Sky Sport,  remains the number one choice to fill the number 9 shirt as City face the daunting task of finding long-term replacements for two Premier League legends in David Silva and Sergio Aguero.

The Citizens are reportedly ready now to spend big money to sign Inter Milan striker and were willing to pay his full release clause according to Sport, via Sportwitness.

The 22-year-old has much potential still to be unlocked. The Argentine marksman is enjoying a prolific campaign with Inter Milan under Antonio Conte this season.
