Today the Premier League says farewell to David Silva 😢

Manchester City legend David Silva has been one of the Premier League’s greatest ever foreign imports.

The ex-Spain playmaker, 34, will play his 309th and last Premier League match for City against Norwich on Sunday.

The 34-year-old playmaker is leaving Manchester at the end of the season, a decade after joining from Valencia. After 433 games, 77 goals, four league titles and countless individual highlights, Silva’s exit is sure to be an emotional one.

Following the departures of Yaya Toure, Pablo Zabaleta, Joe Hart and Vincent Kompany, Silva is the latest central component of City’s 2012 title-winning squad – their first champions in 44 years – to leave the club.

Of that group, only striker Sergio Aguero will remain once Silva leaves.

Silva’s final league game will be at an empty stadium because of coronavirus restrictions, but he has been assured by manager Pep Guardiola of an invite back to Manchester when fans can return, so the playmaker can receive a proper farewell.

The only trophy missing from the Spaniards cabinet is arguably the biggest one of all, the Champions League. But with City on top of Real Madrid after the first leg of the round of 16, and last year’s winners Liverpool eliminated, could we see Pep Guardiola and the team give Silva the dream send off by lifting the trophy?

What football legends had said about David Silva

Alan Shearer: “When we are talking about the best foreign players to grace the Premier League then David Silva is one of the best – if not the best.”

Luis Enrique: “As a player he’s unique. He’s an emblem of the national team for what he’s achieved. You never heard a bad word about him.”

Thierry Henry: “He’s the best creative midfielder we’ve seen in this league. I didn’t see everyone play, but Silva wants the ball and plays the same way against every team. He puts his foot in and doesn’t shy away from the ball. He’s brave off the ball and on the ball. What a player!”

Kevin De Bruyne: “His career in England has been impeccable and I think he is one of the best guys in the Premier League that have come from the outside of England. That says it all.”

Andres Iniesta: “He pulls the strings on the pitch. A brilliant footballer with great movement, he can score, assist, a player who decides a game. He’s got so much to his game, that I would consider him one of the best ever.”

Pep Guardiola: “I think his influence has been huge because what Pep has done during his time here has been incredible.”

Jurgen Klopp: “I like David Silva – he is a wonderful player, he’s everywhere, he’s so skilled and he has a wonderful attitude.”

Xavi: “David Silva is one of the most talented players that Spain has ever produced – without a shadow of a doubt. He’s a spectacular footballer! He has been throughout his entire career.”

Lampard: “The year I had there [at City], to train with him every day, to see his humility as a player and his quality and everything he brings, was something special. I am delighted that he has had the success and all the recognition because he is incredible.”

Roberto Mancini (2016): “Silva is a top, top player. “If he had gone to Barca two years ago everyone would say he’s one of the best players in the world —and he is one of the best players in the world.”

Thanks for the memories
