Pundit claims Pep Guardiola should sign ‘well-gifted’ premier league player ‘made for’ him

Former Manchester United and Leeds United midfielder Johnny Giles has suggested Manchester City should make a move for Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.

The former Liverpool and Swansea City playmaker endured spells on the sidelines under former boss Rafa Benitez has established himself as a key figure under head coach Steve Bruce

Here’s what the former Leeds United man had to say about the 28-year-old midfielder after his display in the recent draw against West Ham:

“It would be a gamble, but if I was Guardiola, I’d be very tempted to go for him, Giles told On The Ball.

“He has the skill, he can pick a pass, he can distribute it, he’s a well-gifted lad and he might be at an age now with the right manager, in the right team – he’d be as good as he’d promised to be years ago.

He later goes on to suggest that:

“I think he’d be made for Guardiola because he’d be playing with top-class players. I think he’d have the respect for Guardiola and, at 28, he’d know this is the last chance. It would be a gamble, but I don’t think you’d have to pay that much for him.

“This guy, when he’s playing, he’s up there with the best, but particularly now, he is as good as there is in the Premier League.”

Thoughts

Giles firmly believes that the Englishman would thrive in a better side, which is no surprise when you consider that he has contributed six goals and one assists so far in the Premier League this season(per Whoscored).

Shelvey is a good midfielder who seems to be at the top of his game. The 28-year-old’s ability in possession has rarely been in question But it is hard to see City make a move for the former Liverpool and Swansea City man in the summer transfer window.
