Manchester City fans wants David Silva’s statue to be build at the entrance of the Etihad stadium to honor the Blues midfielder, believed by many to be the best player in the club’s history.
David Silva nicknamed Merlin by team-mates because of his wizard-like passing abilities joined the club in June 2010 from Valencia. He quickly became a fans’ favourite and has been a key part of the most successful period in the club’s history, winning three Premier League titles, three League Cups and an FA Cup- with the Blues.
The Spanish maestro who is currently back in Gran Canaria with his family is set to end his 10-year stay with Manchester City at the end of the current season. The captain in a Q&A interview with Spanish content expert Cesc Guimera jokingly express his wish for his status to be put at the Entrance of Etihad Stadium.
“I’d like it [statue] at the entrance of the stadium… I’m kidding! A lot of people on social media mention that to me and that’s amazing! I can feel the gratitude from the people for what I’ve done for the club!” he said.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by Man City Xtra, City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions
We need a testimonial, a statue and a stand named after him. The Silva stand has a ring to it.

I saw Colin Bell, I’ve seen David Silva. Both of them are sublime footballers who deserve recognition. They are truely exceptional and don’t come round very often.

If anyone needs a tutorial of how to play football, just show them a El Mago reel, can’t say highlight clip cos his whole career has been highlights, maybe one more blue season 🙏

It seems unlikely that Silva would insist on leaving when his deal expires on June 30 – his plan was to have one last hurrah with City, and go out on a high by helping the citizens win a major trophy or two.
Fans are fearful they will not be able to see Silva play again with games played behind-closed-doors an option said to be being explored if the season is to be continued. As is stands, Silva’s last game in front of supporters was the FA Cup win at Sheffield Wednesday.
The fans have been asking Silva to stay on at City until next season so he has the opportunity to get a proper send-off for his services to the club.
The Citizens will not allow Silva’s departure to go without marking it in some way. City have given big farewells to some of their big stars of recent times, with Pablo Zabaleta, Yaya Toure, and Vincent Kompany all being given the treatment.
