Recently, there have been questions regarding Kalvin Phillips and a potential move to Barcelona, but according to my sources, Barcelona has never contacted Manchester City for Kalvin Phillips. While things can change rapidly towards the end of January, currently there are no negotiations and the deal is not close or concrete.
It is worth noting that a move for Phillips would not come cheap, which is why Juventus decided to abandon conversations as they felt the deal was too expensive. English clubs like Newcastle also have reservations about the deal due to the loan fee and salary coverage, making it a pricey transaction. The financial constraints imposed by Financial Fair Play make it difficult for Newcastle to pursue players like Everton’s Amadou Onana.
West Ham, on the other hand, continues to push for a deal with Phillips, but it remains a challenge. Another target for West Ham, Emile Smith Rowe, saw their loan proposal rejected by Arsenal. The Gunners are eager to retain Smith Rowe due to the high regard Mikel Arteta holds for him, and Smith Rowe himself is content at the club.
Regarding other potential outgoings, Arsenal is open to offers for players like Cedric Soares, and there could be movement in the next week. As for Bayern Munich, they have initiated talks with Newcastle United for Kieran Trippier, who is eager to make the move at 33 years of age.
Meanwhile, Tottenham is in conversations with Club Brugge for Antonio Nusa, a young and promising winger. The club wishes to sign him now and allow him to finish the season with his current club before joining them in the summer.
Lastly, Jadon Sancho and Ian Maatsen have made an impressive start for Borussia Dortmund since joining on loan. With Maatsen, there is a possibility for a permanent deal, and it remains to be seen if Dortmund will pursue it.
