Rico Lewis was sent off after being given a second yellow card during Manchester City’s 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace. The decision from referee Rob Jones to brandish a red card after Rico Lewis contested a loose with Trevoh Chalobah has garnered plenty of opinions, considering the Palace centre-back left a challenge on the two-time Premier League winner.

Jason Cundy’s reaction to Lewis’ sending off was one met by posing a question of why VAR is not allowed to intervene after a referee gives a player a second yellow card.However, Alan Shearer’s view on Lewis’ red card was that it was a just decision due to how he dove in to win the ball.

The Englishman has been ruled out of Manchester City’s upcoming clash in the Premier League against Manchester United on Sunday. The 19-year-old could have been in line for a start in the Manchester Derby, which would be an honour for any City academy graduate.
