The game itself ended in an instantly forgettable 1-1 draw. But it was what came next that meant the 1990 Manchester Derby would go down in ignominy.

In some of the worst football violence Manchester had seen in years, hundreds of marauding United and City hooligans armed with bottles, bricks, iron bars and chair legs fought pitched battles in the streets.
