Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims there was no noise about the club’s pursuit of River Plate’s prodigious young striker, Julian Alvarez thanks to the professionalism and foresight of Txiki Begiristain.

Txiki Begiristain, who has been City’s director of football since 2012, is the man in charge of the Club’s transfer dealings and a very good job he has done of it too.

The rising Argentina star recently completed move from River Plate and the Manchester City football director reveals they have been scouting him for a while.

“Julian is a player we have monitored for some time. He is capable of operating in a number of attacking roles, and we firmly believe he’s one of the best young attacking players in South America” he said.

“I am so happy we have managed to bring him to Manchester City. I really believe we can provide him with the right conditions to fulfil his potential and become a top player.”

It says everything about the way City’s player acquisition system works that they’d been following Alvarez for some time.

According to Ian Herbert via The Daily Mail, Txiki’s level of intelligence, professionalism and foresight is the reason Man City secured 22-year-old Alvarez, a striker they’re comfortable about sending back on loan to River Plate until at least July.

The report claims that Txiki Begiristain starts his annual holiday on September 1. And when it is over, he dedicates his every working hour to analysing the playing requirement, identifying three or four names for each in priority order, then going about securing them.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
