Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club will not pursue a move for Marc Cucurella unless Brighton are prepared to accept a lower fee.

With Oleksandr Zinchenko on his way to Arsenal, Manchester City, who has just one recognised left-back in his senior squad — Joao Cancelo — going into the new season, are pushing to sign Cucurella from Brighton this summer.

The Spaniard has been Manchester City’s top target for a while and the club have opened official talks with Brighton over agreeing on a deal.

But for the moment, the two clubs are far apart in the valuation of the left-back at this stage of the negotiations.

According to Mark Ogden via ESPN, Manchester City are not interested in meeting Brighton’s £50m asking price for the full-back this summer, who has played just one season in the Premier League.

Mark Ogden claims the Premier League champions believe Cucurella’s value to be closer to the £30m mark, and sources have said that they will not pursue a move for the former Barcelona youngster unless Brighton are prepared to accept a lower fee.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“That’s honestly ridiculous… ain’t no way Brighton are gonna lower their asking price, there is no pressure on them to sell… Sosa it is then..”

“Are we broke or what??
We can’t start the season with only 2 full backs and literally no backup .”

“What’s the point in selling zinchenko for £30m and then wanting to sign a replacement for the exact same? We may aswell just have kept Zinchenko in that case.”

“Cucurella or just keep Zinchenko. We can’t go into a season with only Cancelo at left back – and no, Aké isn’t a left back.”

“This just doesn’t make sense..brighton dont have to sell cucu..they will happily keep him so why are we acting like the ones in the power postion..selling zinny without a replacement would be horrendous.”

“Sounds about right. Charging £50 mil for a player having 3 g/a having 1 good season and 0 trophies won + 0 champions league experience, is outright criminal.”

“Good. There is no reason that City should be paying over the odds for Cucurella. I firmly believe that he would be a fantastic addition to the squad, and that he has the potential to turn into one of the best fullbacks in the world, but he’s by no means a £50M player right now..”

“City are being cheap at 30M. Give them 40M with 5M in add-ons and let’s me done with this..”
