Dean Ashton praised Jeremy Doku as he discussed Jack Grealish’s challenging season. Doku, just 21 years old, has been making waves with his exceptional performances, being described as City’s only real spark before Kevin De Bruyne’s arrival against Everton by Frank Leboeuf. After the Sky Blues’ latest 2-0 win, Neil Lennon referred to him as an “eliminator” due to his unstoppable dribbling ability and raw pace.

Recently, it was revealed that Doku became the first player in the Premier League to complete 50 dribbles this season, highlighting his exceptional talent. Dean Ashton specifically acknowledged the outstanding contributions of Doku and also touched on Grealish’s struggles during his time with Manchester City.

Ashton noted, “You then settle and are a big part and a big reason why the club wins the treble and then they bring in [Jeremy] Doku, who’s just an outstanding player in his own right and is playing ahead of you, playing more minutes than you and I think it’s about having a strong mentality and you have to have it at these top clubs or you won’t last.”

Ashton also spoke about how Doku’s outstanding performance could potentially be driving Grealish to elevate his own game. He suggested that Grealish could gain motivation to prove his worth and secure his place in the England’s Euro 2024 squad while reestablishing himself as a key player at Manchester City. Meanwhile, Doku must continue to perform consistently to keep Grealish on his toes.

The young Belgian’s exceptional dribbling skills and pace have certainly made a strong impact at Manchester City, and it appears that his arrival has spurred healthy competition within the team. It will be interesting to see how both players respond to the challenge and further contribute to City’s success in the Premier League and beyond.
