Manchester City is making plans for the future of their affiliation with Pep Guardiola, with the head coach entering his final season at the Etihad Stadium under his existing contract. Despite conversations between Guardiola, Sheikh Mansour, and Khaldoon Al Mubarak in Abu Dhabi, no decision has been made about extending his contract beyond this season.
Reports suggest that Guardiola may not make a final decision on his future with Manchester City until 2024 or 2025. The club is preparing for all scenarios, including the possibility of Guardiola leaving, with discussions about offering him a role within the City Football Group, similar to how Michael Jordan was supported by Nike. Additionally, Guardiola could potentially coach New York City FC in the future.
Even though City had reportedly offered Lionel Messi a lucrative deal in 2020, it is unclear if they are willing to provide Guardiola with an improved pay package. Guardiola has been highly successful at Manchester City, winning multiple Premier League titles and European trophies during his tenure. The club faces uncertainty over their future without Guardiola if he decides to leave next summer, especially as they prepare for a revamped Club World Cup in the United States.
