Manchester City, who had been interested in signing Ajax youngster Gabriel Misehouy, have now decided to abandon their pursuit of the player due to his agent’s tactics. Reports had previously indicated that the Premier League club was keen on signing him, with Ajax also trying to keep him from leaving for free in the summer. However, after a falling out with the Dutch club, City had an opportunity to swoop in and bring him to the Etihad. Yet, journalist Henk Spaan revealed that the club is no longer in contention.
Misehouy, who was dropped from first-team training and not offered a contract renewal by Ajax, had caught the attention of top clubs around Europe. His agent, Guido Albers, believed that the proposed contract was at the same level as past Ajax talents like Nouri and Van de Beek, ranging from 250,000 to 500,000 euros. Despite interest from Manchester City and other clubs, negotiations have not yet resulted in a deal being struck. Spaan suggested that perhaps focusing on a player’s development rather than just financial gains may lead to better outcomes for young talents like Misehouy.
With Manchester City now dropping out of the race for Misehouy, the youngster’s future remains uncertain. Spaan highlighted that, despite his obvious talent on the pitch, the off-field drama surrounding his contract negotiations and agent’s actions may be hindering his progress. It is suggested that a player’s environment should prioritize their development in addition to financial gains, in order to ensure their success and growth in the world of football.
