Florian Wirtz, a star for Bayer Leverkusen and a member of the German national team, has once again been the subject of transfer interest from Manchester City and other major teams. It is expected that the Premier League champions will be active in the upcoming summer transfer window, looking to improve and recruit in various positions within their squad.
Midfield is a particular area of focus, with doubts about Kalvin Phillips’ role as a backup defensive midfielder, despite his success on loan at West Ham. Additionally, there are uncertainties surrounding the longer-term future of Bernardo Silva. City has been linked with Wirtz, who is speculated to be the successor to Kevin De Bruyne.
According to reports from SportBILD and Sport Witness, Manchester City, led by Pep Guardiola, is eyeing Wirtz as a potential replacement for De Bruyne. However, City will not be the only team interested in Wirtz, as Liverpool and Real Madrid are also reportedly keen on the 20-year-old player. Bayern Munich, however, is said to be out of the race for the player.
The cost to secure the services of Wirtz is estimated to be €130 million, with the player currently earning €7.5 million per year. It is assumed that his salary would at least double when he joins a new club. Wirtz has been a central figure in Bayer Leverkusen’s successful season, making 30 appearances and contributing eight goals and 16 assists across all competitions.
Despite the transfer speculation, Wirtz’s father has indicated that there is a likelihood of him continuing to play for Leverkusen in the following season. This could impact the potential transfer plans of Manchester City and other interested clubs.
