Manchester City may face competition from Tottenham in their pursuit of Nantes’ Bastien Meupiyou. Manchester City has been fairly quiet in the transfer market, with their only signing being Claudio Echeverri from River Plate. Additionally, they are monitoring the 17-year-old prospect’s progress before making a decision on his future.

According to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, both Tottenham and Manchester City are monitoring the highly-rated central defender from Nantes. While there is interest from both clubs, Meupiyou will remain at Nantes for the current transfer window, but his situation will be monitored for the summer market. It is reported that RC Lens made an offer for Meupiyou in this transfer window, but it was rejected by Nantes. There are also intentions to extend Meupiyou’s contract, which currently runs until June 2025.

Meupiyou is a product of Nantes’ youth academy and made his Ligue 1 debut in September 2023. His inexperience at the senior level makes it unlikely for him to be immediately thrown into Manchester City’s first-team squad. It remains to be seen how Manchester City views the player, but he could potentially be developed at one of City Group’s clubs.

The French defender has a promising background, having developed with the club’s system after joining from his local club Paris FC. He made his Ligue 1 debut for FC Nantes back in September 2023. There is potential interest in Meupiyou from both Premier League clubs, but it is uncertain how Manchester City sees the player and what their plans are for his development. Regardless, Meupiyou’s progress will be closely watched by both clubs.
