Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has stated that Joao Cancelo may stay at the Etihad Stadium this summer. The Portuguese international has been training with the first-team squad after spending 18 months out on loan. Guardiola mentioned that Cancelo could either stay with the team or go out on loan again, depending on how things evolve.
Guardiola also confirmed that Cancelo could potentially play for City again in the future. The 30-year-old has struggled to secure a permanent move away from the club, with previous loan spells at Bayern Munich and Barcelona not resulting in a permanent transfer. Guardiola hinted that if a good offer is received before the transfer deadline of August 30th, Cancelo could be offloaded.
It has been reported that both Arsenal and Chelsea have shown interest in Cancelo, but the player’s preference would be to return to Barcelona. It is possible that Barcelona may offer to loan Cancelo again but with an option to buy in the contract this time. The situation remains fluid, and it is uncertain where Cancelo will end up in the next few weeks.
