Manchester City are considering signing Bayer Leverkusen wingback Jeremie Frimpong as a potential long-term replacement for Kyle Walker. Discussions have taken place within the club’s recruitment department, but any bid for Frimpong would likely only happen if Walker were to leave the club before the end of the transfer window in August. Walker, who almost left for Bayern Munich last summer, has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
Frimpong, who is known for his attacking qualities rather than his defensive abilities, had an impressive season with 14 goals and 12 assists in 47 appearances. Other Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Arsenal, have also shown interest in the Netherlands international. Frimpong reportedly has a release clause of €40m, which is still valid according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, making him an affordable option for potential suitors.
Despite interest from multiple clubs, it seems that City has yet to make a move for Frimpong, leading to speculation about his future. With City looking for a possible replacement for Walker, Frimpong’s attacking prowess and relatively low release clause could make him an attractive option in the transfer market. It remains to be seen whether City will eventually make an offer for the 23-year-old wingback.
