Chelsea are close to signing Estevao Willian from Palmeiras, a player who has attracted interest from top clubs like Manchester City, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain. It is reported that Chelsea have made the most decisive move and are in advanced talks to finalise the transfer, with the deal expected to cost around £50m with add-ons.
Manchester City have decided not to compete with Chelsea for Estevao’s signature, likely due to the high transfer fee involved. City, who have a history of investing in young talent, have never paid more than £27m for a teenager. Instead, the club has focused on signing young players from Argentina, with successful acquisitions like Julian Alvarez from River Plate.
City will be looking to replicate their success in signing young talent from South America with the recent purchase of Claudio Echeverri from River Plate for £12.5m. He is currently on loan back in Argentina but is expected to join the club at the beginning of next year. Despite the cost involved in signing young talent, City will be hoping to unearth another gem like Alvarez and invest in the future of the club.
