Manchester City have identified Diogo Costa of Porto as their top candidate to replace Ederson as their No.1 goalkeeper. Ederson was close to leaving for Saudi Arabia in the last transfer window but a deal could not be completed. Interest from the Middle East still remains and a transfer could be revived in the near future.

Porto is reportedly holding out for Costa’s €75m release clause, which City is not prepared to pay. If the valuation is lowered to around €45m to €50m, a deal could potentially be reached. Manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that the only reason Ederson did not leave in the summer was because City did not receive a bid that matched their valuation.

The situation with Ederson and a potential replacement in Costa is something to keep an eye on in the coming months. Manchester United and Chelsea have also shown interest in Costa but have been put off by Porto’s asking price. For now, Ederson is expected to stay at City, but the goalkeeper situation remains uncertain.
