Manchester City are reportedly showing interest in RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo as a possible replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, who may be leaving the club this summer. The German tabloid Bild claims that City’s pursuit of the Spanish international is becoming more concrete, with manager Pep Guardiola said to be a big fan of the player. Olmo has a buyout fee of €60m (£51m) in his contract, which any team can trigger this summer, but the clause is set to expire soon.
While other Premier League clubs such as Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham have also been linked with Olmo, it is reported that City’s main competition for his signature is Barcelona. Though Olmo has expressed a desire to return to Barcelona, the Catalan club may not have the financial means to meet his release clause, giving City a possible advantage in the transfer race. However, whether Olmo can effectively replace De Bruyne at City remains a subject of debate, as he may not be considered a world-class performer despite his success with Leipzig in Germany.
City’s opportunity to sign Olmo for the €60m release clause price is said to last until July 15th, after which Leipzig may still be open to negotiating his sale. With De Bruyne potentially leaving the club, City may view Olmo as a viable option to bolster their midfield options. Despite interest from other clubs, City’s financial capability to trigger his release clause may give them an edge in securing Olmo’s signature this summer.
