Former Liverpool captain and manager Graeme Souness has questioned the value of Manchester City winger Jack Grealish and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice, who both commanded £100m transfer fees. In a podcast, Souness stated that he does not believe Rice and Grealish are worth the hefty price tags, suggesting that a world-class player should be able to get into any team in the world.

While Grealish’s performances were crucial to City’s treble-winning season in 2022/23, his form has dipped recently due to fitness issues. The winger has struggled to make an impact and has only made one substitute appearance so far this campaign. With City’s squad lacking a recognized No.9 striker apart from Erling Haaland, there may be opportunities for Grealish to shine in a more central role.

As City manager Pep Guardiola looks to manage his squad effectively, Grealish could see more playing time in the coming weeks, especially with the decision not to replace Julian Alvarez. Guardiola may need to be creative with his team selection, allowing Grealish to potentially showcase his talent from the left flank. Despite concerns about his recent form, Grealish may have the chance to prove his worth and justify his hefty transfer fee.
