Real Madrid and Spain international goalkeeping legend Iker Casillas has picked Manchester City’s Ederson in his list of the top-five goalkeepers at the moment.
The Real Madrid legend knows a thing or two about shot-stopping given he spent well over a decade as first-choice keeper at arguably the biggest club in the world.
Casillas was asked by Diario AS’ YouTube Channel to name his top five and he chose Real Madrid’s current number one choice Thibaut Courtois.
The Belgium international was then followed by Manchester City’s Ederson – who has arguably revolutionized the art of operating between the sticks since joining the Premier League champions five years ago- in second place.
Then came a La Liga duo in third and fourth place respectively, as Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak came just ahead of Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen. In fifth position came Bayern Munich and Germany legend, Manuel Neuer.
The fact Ederson is included over his compatriot, Alisson Becker has raises a few eyebrows amongst football fans given the Liverpool star keeps Ederson out of the Brazil squad.
But, then again, we aren’t the expert here and Casillas knows what he’s talking about. unless you specialised there, it’s pretty impossible to understand what is required at the very top level in that position.
Whilst he’s certainly brilliant with his feet, there have been question marks posed recently about his shot-stopping ability – which, naturally, should be a keeper’s bread and butter.
